THE STORY
Over the past few decades, the Muslim community in Central Brooklyn has grown exponentially.
As this multi-ethnic Muslim population continues to increase in numbers via immigration and new reverts to Islam, its needs have also increased.
Although local businesses have been providing halal meat, medical services, and other basic community needs, efforts to address the issues that that this growing community faces have not been sufficient. A larger than normal youth population, English skills lower than the New York Cityaverage, and a higher overall poverty rate, present a myriad of challenges that need to be addressed.
A few local organizations are doing commendable work to help Muslims in this section of Brooklyn, however there is still room for a lot more to be done.
